Tech Corner: Facebook Fan Pages and Ad Targeting

Summa Real Estate recently ironed out our own Facebook Fan Page! You can check out daily updates about Summa business, Summa friends (ie. other real estate pros), and read up on interesting market news that could very well help with your home search.

Speaking of market news, check out this article on Techcrunch.com. It’s about how a lot of companies are customizing their Facebook Fan pages with applications that track or analyze the demographics of their fans. If that idea seems a little abstract, the article gives some great examples:

Messages can be targeted to fans based on their age, gender, country, city, or exact geo-location…A spa having a slow weekend could entice women customers to “Bring in three friends and get 25% off.”

Essentially, it’s a way for businesses to better understand who they’re talking to and how to reach their prime consumers/clients. Now, we don’t always like the “big brother” aspect that can accompany ad targeting. What we do like is that fans have to Opt-In. That means, you’re not automatically signed up to receive these targeted offers. You have to willingly sign up for them.

We think that privacy is and always will be the counter-point to these types of opportunities. The balancing act is all about respecting your fans’ privacy, but also making sure the people who could really benefit from your product or service hear about it.

What do you think about textual Ads? Too much intrusion or ingenious idea? We’d love to hear your thoughts. By the way, are you a Facebook fan of Summa Real Estate? Check it out! We promise, your privacy is a priority.

5 Red Flags: Is Your Real Estate Agent Bad News?

Bill Toomey said,

It is always possible to improve.

We tend to agree with Bill. At Summa, we’re always working hard to improve our performance, as well as our relationships with clients and fellow agents.

Maybe you’re currently working with an agent. Maybe you’re interested in finding one to help with your home search or sale. The SF Gate outlines the top 5 signs of a lagging agent; good information when you’re looking for real estate help and a great reminder for agents looking to improve upon their service.

Real Estate Advertising: Stay in Print or Go Viral?

The great debate in marketing today is whether or not print, as a medium, is going kaput.

With a tempestuous real estate market, brokers want to make the most of every ad dollar. So, should you keep your funds in the classified section or shift them all online? Our friend Frank, and his handy Wheel-Estate-Cam, has a few, very relevant suggestions…

Check him out, then tell us what you think…Are you advertising online exclusively? Do you have a web presence, at all?

Interested in reading more about the print vs. online ad debate? Here are some more articles/sites we dug up:

  • The Yellow Pages is getting an overhaul.
  • If you don’t keep up with Ad Age, then you’re probably not up-to-speed.
  • What do you think of this article? It says TV ads are most successful and online advertising is still simply a “growth” area.
